An elderly person used to tell his children that when you smile at the world, it smiles back to you and likewise when you fume and frown to it, it fumes and frowns back to you.
It is said that when you smile, the whole world smiles with you and when you weep, you weep alone.
Smiling is the cheapest way of looking good. It costs you nothing. When you smile, only one muscle comes into action but when you frown, it is said, fourteen muscles become involved. Hence, frowning is fatiguing, energy sapping; whereas smiling is energizing.
According to our belief system, smiling to your brother is just like performing a charitable action. Just as practising charity drives away adversity and makes things easier; similarly smiling brings positive results to your life. It opens doors of success. It creates positive energy in both the customer and yourself. It makes you sellable instantly. The customer becomes more receptive to your ideas. His mood is turned on. The salesmen also get a dose of adrenalin. Confidence increases; excitement and enthusiasm become more pronounced. As a result, flow of frequent and large orders becomes possible.
Attempting sales without a genuine, sincere smile is like climbing water up the cliff on a hill.
Business leaders who smile, get instant and more attention of their peers and junior colleagues; people easily become associated with them because a smile generates message of warmth, friendship, intimacy, openness. It tells the other person that “I am interested in you and that I want to draw closer”. It is a very important tool for confidence building and relationship building.
If you don’t know how to smile, please don’t worry. With practice you will soon learn it, in fact master it. It will become your second nature. Practice smiling, standing in front of a mirror; a genuine, sincere, intelligent ear to ear smile. Practice it just like Babar Azam practices his poetry like cover drives on the batting nets. It is a part of his job; make smiling a part of yours!
