We see that many people work very hard but still don’t succeed. Does this mean that only dishonest people can dream of a better future? No… there is a way that can end all our problems. It includes strong faith, continuous hard work and love of what you do. This triangle becomes the ladder to success.
Many years ago, there was a man named Nabi Bakhsh. He used to sell vegetables outside his house. He was uneducated. He had a son and a daughter who studied in a government school. People used to buy vegetables from him and often chatted with him. He was a very hardworking man. He wished he could have a bicycle so his children wouldn’t have to walk three kilometers to school, and he could drop them off himself. His wishes showed how helpless he was, and people used to wonder: if he can’t even fulfill such small dreams, what can he achieve by selling vegetables?
One of his customers, got the answer a few days ago!
One day, traffic was suddenly blocked on Lahore’s famous Road because of a small accident. One of his buyers was worried because he had to reach an important meeting. In front of him was a new model car. If that car moved a little, he could easily turn his car into the side street and take another route. After waiting a bit, he got out and asked the driver, who was wearing a white uniform, to move the car a little. He replied rudely, “The car will move when the road is clear.” Suddenly, he thought of talking to the person sitting in the back seat. When he looked, he was shocked—it was Nabi Bakhsh, wearing a very fine suit. Both recognized each other. He couldn’t understand how Nabi Bakhsh, who used to sell vegetables, now owned such an expensive car. Nabi Bakhsh quickly took out his card and gave it to him, saying, “You must meet me.”
The next day, he was standing outside a big house in an upscale area of the city, which had a sign saying “Nabi Bakhsh Bungalow.” He couldn’t believe it and kept thinking that Nabi Bakhsh must have done something wrong to become so rich, because no one can get this far just by selling vegetables. Soon, he was sitting in his drawing room, amazed by the beautiful furniture. Nabi Bakhsh was still the same friendly person. He asked him the first question: how did this big change come in your life?
Nabi Bakhsh happily replied, “Sir, I never compromised on faith on God, hard work, my children’s education and their continuous development. No matter what, I made sure they got a good education at school and develop good attitude at home. My son became an engineer, and my daughter is now a Senior Vice President in a bank. Thank God, we have no shortage of money. The dreams I had, were fulfilled by my educated children. If I had not had faith in God, shunned hard work and neglected children’s education, continuous development and training, I would still be a failure today.”
