It was 1998, the year end was approaching; Karachi based textile exporter was in a rush to complete its export orders! It’s reputation was at stake. In the middle of this crisis, his main plant broke down! The supplier tried to take advantage of this situation by forcing the customer to change more parts than were needed. Under these circumstances, the customer had no option but to succumb to the pressure! But then he decided to bid farewell to the Supplier terminating decade long association! The poor attitude of the Supplier proved to be the Achilles heel!

Background:
In modern usage, the phrase “Achilles heel” refers to a person’s or organization’s greatest weakness. It represents a critical flaw in the ways of working that can lead to downfall.

The Great Divide:
In the vast landscape of business, the quality of service from RECEPTION TO THE PRESIDENT acts as a great divide, separating the good from the bad, the ordinary from the extraordinary, winner from the loser, thriving from the declining.

The Slippery Slope:

The Supplier in the opening paragraph learnt the lesson. From the Engineer who tried to change more parts than needed to the President who didn’t focus on continuous improvement; everybody accepted their mistakes! The initiative was taken by the President who realized that the fish always start to rot from the HEAD!

What once was Achilles heel was completely healed by acceptance of mistakes!
